30 September 2009 The Manor House - Polish IdentityOn the 30th September 2009 the inaugural exhibition of the Grand 40th Anniversary Year of the University of Gdańsk entitled "The Manor House - Polish Identity" was opened in the University's Main Library. The author of the exhibition is Dr Maciej Rydel, a researcher of Polish manor houses and the history of the landed gentry as well as the author of numerous publications. At the exhibition, in addition to the photography and watercolours of Maciej Rydel, historical documents, magazines, maps and the most important publications concerning manor houses and the landed gentry are presented. The exhibition is being held under the substantive patronage of the National Director of the Centre for the Research and Documentation of Monuments, Dr Marcin Gawlicki. Numerous guests from all over Poland attended the opening of the exhibition, including members of the Polish Society of the Landed Gentry. The vernissage was begun with a lecture given by the author of the exhibition on Polish manor houses before it was officially opened by the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Dr Bernard Lammek.
