It is important for us to know that you make an informed choice when selecting works of art, therefore we encourage you to use our glossary of fine art terms which will be successively enlarged with the concepts, techniques and technologies which can be found in descriptions of works of art offered for sale.

cast
an object made from a hard material (e.g. bronze) of a model made from an impermanent material (clay, wax) by means of a casting form.
catalogue raisonné
“reasoned catalogue”, a monograph giving exhaustive information on the artist, school attended, period etc.; an etching is accompanied by the name of the artist, a customary and official title, the dimensions of the plate, a description of the depiction, the number of state proofs, its rarity, whether it is signed or if there are inscriptions, dedications, the condition of the plate, if any later editions exist, if the plate was invalidated, if there are any copies of the given print and how they differ from the original, if there are any forgeries etc.

a technique, initiated by the cubists, of composing a picture by gluing different materials together
colophon
located on the final page of the book it includes the name of the printer as well as the location and date of the edition
